Lake Erie Panthers Announce Return to Historic “Euclid Panthers” Name

Euclid, Ohio — 4/1/2026

The Lake Erie Panthers Hockey Club, a proud member of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League, today announced that the organization will officially return to its historic name, the Euclid Panthers, beginning with the upcoming season.

The decision marks a return to the program’s roots, reconnecting the organization with a legacy that dates back to its founding in 1976.

The Euclid Youth Hockey Association, established in 1976, has been a cornerstone of youth hockey development in Northeast Ohio for nearly five decades. Since its inception, the association has remained committed to developing young athletes, promoting sportsmanship, and building a strong sense of community through the game of hockey.

“This is more than just a name change. It’s a return to who we are,” said Hockey Director Nick Komma. “The Euclid Panthers name represents generations of players, families, and coaches who built this program. We’re honoring that legacy while continuing to grow and move forward.”

Originally competing as the Euclid Panthers, the organization evolved over time into the Lake Erie Panthers, expanding its reach while maintaining its core mission. Today, the club continues to operate as a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization focused on youth development and community engagement.

All teams will continue to compete under USA Hockey and Mid-Am District guidelines, with participation in one of the region’s most competitive leagues. The organization remains dedicated to providing a high-quality, affordable hockey experience while fostering a family-first culture.

The return to the Euclid Panthers name reflects a renewed emphasis on community identity and pride, aligning the program more closely with the city it represents.

“This is about our city, our history, and our future,” Komma added. “We’re building something special, and bringing back the Euclid Panthers name is a big part of that.”

The organization will begin rolling out new branding, uniforms, and program updates in the coming months.
